Empowered to Lead

Empowered to Lead

The Women's Philanthropic Network's new Empowered to Lead series is a partnership between the Community Foundation's Center for Nonprofit Excellence and the WPN. Plans are now finalized to launch this new leadership series with the first module on March 5, 2012.

The feedback from the WPN Member-Interest Survey conducted in the summer of 2011 showed that members were very interested in the issue of smart philanthropic giving and informed leadership. The feedback is also consistent with national trends; Women's Philanthropic Leadership programs are in place in several large communities throughout the nation. The Atlanta Women's Fund hosts the series, Women on Board and the Omaha Women's Fund holds a full day event, Ready to Serve.

The first module of the Empowered to Lead series will be on Strategic Giving. Many members wanted to know more about the right questions to ask when considering a charitable gift, and how they could be more strategic in their giving.

Each session will last two hours and be informal with plenty of opportunity for sharing of ideas, personal experience and group discussion. In addition, WPN members with relevant professional training will facilitate the more structured portion of the sessions. Some of the topics to be covered in the first module Strategic Giving are:

  • Different types of giving
  • Connecting Mission to Passion
  • What for you personally is successful outcome?
  • What do you need to know about a nonprofit
  • Governance
  • Financial Informaton
  • Organizational compliance
  • Fundraising Structure
