Mission
The purpose of the Women's Philanthropic Network (WPN) is to increase substantially the endowment funds available to help women and girls within the Collier County area and to build in all women a greater understanding of empowerment through philanthropy.

How did the WPN Form? The WPN grew out of a response from members of the Women of Style Leadership Committee who wanted to develop a sustainable way to meet the special needs of women and girls by creating opportunities for economic, educational, physical, emotional, social artistic and personal growth.

Why is the WPN Needed? The committee realized that despite the fact that society’s most chronic problems from poverty to healthcare to violence fall hardest on women, the funding of generic programs often ignore the specific need of women and girls.  The Women’s Funding Network (WFN) reports that only 7 percent of private philanthropy in the U.S. is devoted to programs targeted at this underserved population.

What will be the result? To respond to this need, the Community Foundation of Collier County has established an endowed Women’s Initiative Fund, founded out of the realization that Collier County needs a permanent pool of dollars to fund programs that support the causes of women and girls.

Five-Year Financial Goals of the Women’s Philanthropic Network

  • Increase the Endowment to $1,000,000
  • Sustain Annual Grantmaking of $50,000
  • Establish Individual Field of Interest Funds to support the unmet needs of Women and Girls

The Women's Philanthropic Network 2010 -11 Grantmaking Program:
In support of the work of the Leadership Council on Aging, in January 2011, the WPN Steering Committee released a request for proposals (RFP) to nonprofits providing services to seniors and caregivers. The committee was looking to fund innovative sustainable programs that offer respite care to caregivers. The four grant recipients, who each receive $3,000, were announced at the Women of Initiative Awards luncheon in April and are as follows:

1) The Alzheimer's Support Network - to open an Emergency Respite Fund to assist caregivers
who are overwhlemed and at risk of a medical or emotional breakdown.
2) The Care Club - to provide 12 families with 5 days of respite care per month for one year.
3) Jewish Family Services - to launch a series of Caregiver Telephone Conference
Call Support Groups for caregivers who find it difficult to access support groups in the community.
4) The Parkinson Association of Southwest Florida - to provide emergency respite care
one day per week to assist caregivers who are overwhelmed and desperate for help.

In addition to the caregiver grants of $12,000, the WPN granted $7,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County to fund the Junior Women of Initiative Program, and $500 each to the charities of choice of the ten Women of Initiative Honorees for 2011. A grand total of $24,000 in grants was awarded to the Collier County nonprofit community.

The Women's Philanthropic Network (WPN) Annual Circles of Giving
Your participation in the Annual Circles of Giving will reflect a cumulative total of all gifts you have contributed to the WPN since January 1, 2008, and includes annual membership gifts. Circle of Giving levels begin at $500 and increase in increments of $500. The Circle of 500; The Circle of 1,000; The Circle of 1,500, 5,000, 10,000, etc. (As an example, the Circle of 500 ranges from $500 to $999, Circle of 1,000 ranges from $1,000 to $1,499.) A minimum gift is $100.

Recognition for Circle of Giving members begins with cumlative gifts totaling $500. Circle of Giving members will be invited to all social networking events, personal enrichment opportunities, plus briefings on "What's Happening in Philanthropy" including private preview tours. Members receive invitations to WPN events, the newsletter and have voting rights at the Annual Meeting. However, most of all, because 25 percent of all gifts goes toward the WPN Endowment, your gift reflects a perpetual commitment to support the needs of women and girls in our community.

The Women's Philanthropic Fundholder Society: These women have opened named funds at the Foundation to support the women's or girls issues they determine most critical. A minimum balance of $10,000 is suggested. Fundholders often contribute toward the grantmaking program of the WPN and then replenish their fund.

Legacy and Tribute Gifts:  These include planned gifts to the WPN Endowment in an estate or will, or can be in the form of a special tribute to honor or memorialize that special person.

75 percent of membership gifts will go to help sustain the work and annual grantmaking of the
WPN to support the following programs:
The Women of Initiative Awards, The Junior Women of Initiative Mentoring Program,
The Women's Philanthropic Network Grantmaking Program for Women and Girls
and The Senior and Caregiver Initiative.
